Here are some frequently asked questions about Q plate insurance.
What is a Q registration number plate?
The DVLA issues Q registration numbers to vehicles whose age or identity is in doubt or cannot be released due to classified reasons. Vehicles commonly issued with Q plates include kit cars, former Ministry of Defence vehicles and cars without a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
Why are Q plates more difficult to insure?
Our insurance providers use registration number plates to identify a vehicle in order to assess the risks involved with its usage. Number plates inform our providers of your vehicle’s age which is part of the main criteria we use to calculate our classic car insurance premiums. Uncertainty over the age or identity of the vehicle may increase the associated risks.
